White Rhino Calves
2008 was an amazing year in the history of the park with the birth of 2 White Rhino calves. Mum Ntombi gave birth first on the 1st June to female Nyala then at approximately 3.50pm on September 11th mum Tala gave birth to male Zimba. Thanks to the BBC Cumbria webcam we have some amazing shots of the Nyalas birth and Zimba's was captured on park CCTV which you will see below along with some wonderful pictures of the calves first days & as they grow up.
The 2 calves join South Lakes Wild Animal Parks herd of Rhino which includes Dad Mazungu and other male Huubke here as part of the international breeding programme. With only a handful of calves born in Europe in the last 12 months and with a gestation period of 15 months these 2 are certainly special.

2 week old Zimba & 4 month old Nyala (front) enjoy a day out with mum (25.09.08)
